The Right Application
At Balkanlar Mühendislik, we believe that lasting productivity gains come from providing the right solution. We strive to deliver that solution to our partners by combining these three steps.
1. The Right Method
Our proposed solution starts with selecting a machining method for each operation based on the workpiece material and geometry. The key questions when choosing a method are:
- Which machine and machining technique are suitable for the operation?
- What is the machine's maximum spindle speed and, if through-tool coolant is available, what is its pressure?
- Should the cutting tool be solid or indexable?
- Which cutting tool material is appropriate? Options such as PCD, CBN, carbide, ceramic, cermet and HSS are evaluated against the operating conditions.
2. The Right Product
The right product is selected for the method established to suit the workpiece material and geometry.
- Should the cutting tool be a special or a standard tool?
- What insert shape is required?
- Insert geometry and chipbreaker design are selected according to the intended depth of cut.
- Insert hardness is determined by the vibration and impact conditions of the operation.
3. The Right Application
Having selected the right method and product for the workpiece material, geometry, machine conditions, depth of cut and impact loading, it is essential to implement them correctly within the process.
Spindle speed, feed rate, surface finish and correct clamping directly affect the outcome. The solution rests on three foundations; if any of them is weak, productivity drops significantly.
The brand and quality of the product are therefore very important, but cannot deliver the right solution on their own. Even the best products often perform poorly when applied incorrectly.
