Thread Mill Selection

Selecting the right thread mill requires considering thread size, pitch, depth, flute count and material together.

KARBID application note

Thread milling can offer greater process flexibility than tapping

Thread mills are particularly suitable for machining the same pitch in different diameters, controlling chips in blind holes, reducing cutting forces and maintaining precise process control. The KARBID BM3F, BM1F and BMMF families cover 2XD/3XD depths and single-flute, three-flute and multi-flute designs.

Thread size alone is not enough to make the right selection. Machining depth, minimum hole diameter, shank diameter, material, machine rigidity and the target cycle time must be considered together.

Example product families

BM3F: three-flute 2XD/3XD thread mills. BM1F: single-flute applications. BMMF: multi-flute thread milling solutions focused on cycle time.
