KARBID application note
Grooving and parting-off require a combined assessment of rigidity, chip evacuation and geometry
Vibration, edge chipping, burrs and surface defects in grooving and parting-off often cannot be explained by insert quality alone. Groove width, cutting depth, toolholder overhang, workpiece diameter, clamping and chip evacuation must all be evaluated together.
The KARBID grooving and parting-off catalogue covers insert and toolholder families for external grooves, internal grooves, face grooves, circlip grooves, full-radius grooves and parting-off. Selecting products using data from the current operation produces more stable, measurable results.
Information required for a quotation
- Groove width, groove depth and tolerance
- External grooving, internal grooving, face grooving or parting-off operation
- Material, workpiece diameter, clamping and current toolholder dimensions
- Current tool life and any vibration, burrs or surface defects
