Process data often clarifies the need for special tooling
When a standard tool falls short, moving straight to special tool production may not always be the right decision. First, the current operation's cycle time, tool life, scrap rate, surface finish and clamping conditions should be assessed. In some cases, the right standard tool, coating or parameter optimisation may be enough; in others, special tooling provides the solution.
Balkanlar Mühendislik evaluates special carbide inserts, special solid tools, step drills, PCD/CBN inserts, regrinding, coatings, time studies and cost improvements against a single process objective.
Information required for an assessment
- Component drawing, operation sequence and critical dimensions
- Current tool code, tool life and cycle time
- The problem: breakage, surface defects, burrs, machining time, cost or dimensional variation
- The objective: a shorter cycle, longer tool life, more consistent dimensions or a lower cost per part
